The 17th AERF Was Held at Nagoya University

The 17th Africa Educational Research Forum (AERF) was held in Nagoya University’s Graduate School of International Development (GSID) on April 22-23, 2016, and the theme of the forum was “Literacy and skills development in Africa”. More than 40 researchers participated in the forum and the researchers from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) also presented in the forum.

The forum was opened and chaired by Mr. Takao Shimizu who is a researcher in Anthropology in Hiroshima University’s Center for Study of International Cooperation in Education (CICE). The second part of the day was chaired by professor Jun Kawaguchi, assistant professor at Tshukuba University and the day was closed by a practical and very informative panel on literacy and skills in Africa chaired by Professor Shoko Yamada at Nagoya University, the hosting institution of the forum. All these were followed by a reception made of great food and drink served in that evening.

The 23rd of April which was the second and last day of the forum, we were all amazed by the presentation made by two unique researchers both disabled with visual impairment, but wonderfully shared from their field experience in Sudan. For this time, the student from Professor Keiichi Ogawa’s seminar that presented in the forum is mentioned below.

Loleka, Y. B. “Assessing Impact of NGOs’Activities for Out-of-Primary-School-aged Children in Democratic Republic of Congo: Case of Kinshasa Province”.
