CAMPUS Asia Symposium at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand (Xiaoxiao JIA)

On November 19, 2015, I presented my paper in the CAMPUS Asia Symposium held at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand. The theme of the symposium was “Challenges and Prospects on Higher Education Cooperation in East Asia”. This symposium was jointly sponsored by Kobe University, Korea University, Fudan University and Chulalongkorn University, and with the supports of UNESCO Bangkok and Chiang Mai University.

Professors, relevant students and teaching staffs from five universities (Kobe, Korea, Fudan, Chlalongkorn and Chiang Mai) and several education specialists from UNESCO Bangkok participated in this event. The morning session was chaired by Professor Keiichi Ogawa from Kobe University. Other professors from Kobe, Korea and Fudan Universities delivered impressive presentation in terms of successful implementation and outstanding outcomes of the CAMPUS Asia program conducted by the three universities. Moreover, the following three important guests delivered keynote speeches, namely Dr. Satoko Yano, Education Specialist at UNESCO Bangkok; Dr. Gajaseni Nantana, Director at ASEAN University Network; and Prof. Kuniaki Yamashita, Director at Japan Society for Promotion Science (JSPS) Bangkok Office.

Campus AsiaAs a student from Kobe University who participated in the dual degree program in Korea University, I was honored to be invited to provide a presentation of my master thesis in the symposium. It was a precious opportunity for me to further improve my research on financial risks by receiving various comments from audience with different background. Moreover, I very much benefitted from these sessions because I was able to meet with some Ogawa seminar alumni who are working for the UNESCO Bangkok as specialists. For instance, Dr. Akemi Ashida was the discussant of my presentation, and she provided me with valuable questions from a very new and interesting perspective. Ms. Tserennadmid Nyamkhuu delivered the closing speech at the end of the symposium.

It was really a good experience for me to participate in this event because it was an excellent opportunity to review my thesis on which I had been working so hard, and to improve it by receiving questions and comments. Meanwhile, I was able to meet with many famous professors, specialists and my friends from Japan, Korea, China and Thailand to share our experiences and recent interesting stories. I really enjoyed in that reunion time. More importantly, I was highly motivated after talking with Ogawa seminar alumni who based in Bangkok. I realized that working at international organizations like them is not an unreached dream. They are good examples for potential graduates from Ogawa seminar like me.
