The 50th Japan Comparative Education Society’s (JCES) Annual Conference was held at Nagoya University from July 11th to 13th, 2014. Prof. Keiichi Ogawa’s Seminar students actively participate in domestic and international academic conferencesrelated to comparative and international education. During this year’s JCES conference, Prof. Keiichi Ogawa and eleven of his students (two alumni and nine current students) presented their full papers and received very valuable comments and advice to help them improve their respective academic research projects.
On the first day of the conference, Prof. Ogawa chaired a round-table discussion themed “Educational Finance and Administration: Focus on Primary Schools in Developing Countries”. Dr. James Wokadala, who is a lecturer at Makerere University, Uganda and Ogawa zemi alumni, was one of the presenters during the round-table discussion. Moreover, Mr. Toyohiko Yogo, who is a doctoral student under Prof. Ogawa and Assistant Professor at the Toyohashi University of Technology made a presentation in another round-table session titled “Emerging International Dimensions in East Asian Higher Education”.
After the conference’s reception held on the second day, Prof. Ogawa and his students (current and former) had a reunion dinner at a restaurant around JR Nagoya Station. Since lots of Prof. Ogawa Seminar’s students and alumni are working in various institutions out of Kobe, it was a good opportunity to update each other about personal, professional and academic developments and to exchange contact information. A number of Ogawa Zemi alumnae who obtained master’s degree in March 2014 took part in the conference and joined this reunion dinner.
