On March 21st, 2022, Professor Keiichi Ogawa kindly delivered an online lecture about “World Bank Support on Education Sector: Economic Perspectives” at Universitas Airlangga, in Indonesia. His presence as a guest speaker was well-applauded by the undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students from the Faculty of Economics and Business, with more than 110 participants.
Professor Ogawa began his speech with a brief introduction on the history of the World Bank and its role since the establishment after WWII. Then, he highlighted some concepts of economics of education, such as rate of return, labor market analysis, cost-effective analysis, and benefit-incidence analysis. He pointed out the ongoing projects of the World Bank in Southeast Asian countries, and how it is currently conducted, especially focusing on economics of education perspectives. Next, he provided his point of view regarding World Bank tremendous support, mainly in the educational field. At last, he introduced required skills for working at an international organization (e.g. T-shape professional, grit, teamwork, leadership, proactiveness, and technical expertise etc).
The lecture ended with a question and answer session, in which he received many questions from the students. Students were grateful to receive comprehensive knowledge about the World Bank and the projects in education. At the end of the seminar, Professor Ogawa was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation for sharing his valuable time and knowledge delivering a talk as a guest speaker to the Universitas Airlangga.
