Lecture from Dr. Chea Phal about Online Learning in Cambodia

On the 29th March 2022, Dr. Chea Phal, a research fellow at Cambodia Development Resource Institute, kindly delivered a lecture about ‘Online Learning during COVID-19 in Cambodia Secondary Schools: Practices, Challenges, and Ways Forward’ through Campus Asia Plus Program, organized by Professor Ogawa.

The session started with a brief introduction about the biography of Dr. Chea Phal from Professor Ogawa. Then, Dr. Phal started sharing his PowerPoint slides on the topic of online learning in Cambodia. He began with a general talk about the pandemic before linking it to the Cambodian context. Consequently, he continued with how the Cambodian government implemented virtual learning in order to ensure the continuity of education. After that, he presented his study focused on teachers’ readiness for online learning. The presentation was well-structured with background, literature review, methods, results, and conclusion.

The result of his work was very interesting, and it was comprehensive enough that the students could understand very well. However, there were many questions due to some unexpected results such as: there was no significant correlation between teachers’ training and teachers’ readiness, and urban schools were mostly selected in the random sampling, but Dr. Phal could respond excellently. I, on behalf of all the participants, would like to express my gratitude to Professor Ogawa for arranging this wonderful seminar, and Dr. Phal for his valuable time and knowledge.
