The 2024 Rong Chang Cup Youth Innovation Competition on Global Governance (YICGG) was held in Budapest, Hungary from July 22 to July 26, 2024. YICGG was launched in 2007 by Fudan University with the support of the United Nations Development Program in China, and since 2007, 103 countries and 2904 participants have participated in the event. YICGG collects proposals for innovative global governance from around the world and selects proposals based on each year’s theme. In the final round, those who passed the document selection process will randomly organize an eight-person team and create one final proposal. The best proposal will be awarded on the final day of the event.
This year’s theme was “Society with AI: Humanity and Sustainability”. Three second-year master’s students (Takumi Koike, Mayuko Mizukure, and Noa Yokogawa) submitted a proposal titled “AI Governance on Nursing Care Focused on the Public-Private Collaboration”. They passed the first screening and participated in the final round.
During the event, participants not only worked on their proposals as a team but also toured local universities and companies researching AI. We engaged in panel discussions with professors specializing in AI research. Additionally, an event called Culture Night was held on the evening of the second day, where participants from around the world introduced their home countries’ cultures (e.g., dances). The final proposal presentations on the last day showcased numerous innovative and collaborative ideas addressing current issues related to AI governance. It was challenging to discuss and develop proposals with students from diverse backgrounds and majors. We gained significant insights into global governance and the skills required to be effective team players. Furthermore, we had the valuable opportunity to interact with outstanding students from Europe, Africa, and other parts of the world.
Finally, we sincerely appreciate Fudan University, the Shanghai Rong Chang Public Welfare Foundation, and the student staff of Fudan University for hosting this event. We would also like to express our deepest gratitude to Professor Keiichi Ogawa for encouraging our participation in the event.
