The 27th Annual Conference of the Japan Society for International Development (JASID) was held at Hiroshima University in November 26 and 27, 2016. The theme of this year’s conference was “Local and Global Community-building through International Cooperation.” The Graduate School for International Development and Cooperation (IDEC) of Hiroshima University, established to nurture experts to address challenging issues in developing countries, organized this year’s gathering. JASID is an academic association established to bring tougher knowledge and experience about development from multiple disciplines, ranging from economies and management to politics, sociology, anthropology, agriculture, technology, medicine and so forth. Their primary objective is to contribute to the development of human resources for further enrichment of research and practice in the field of international development.
Professor Keiichi Ogawa, who has served as JASID’s Secretary General and Executive Director since November 2014, co-chaired the Board Meeting and Plenary Session and chaired two oral presentation sessions during this year’s annual conference. There were 38 different sessions including poster sessions as well as special sessions for visiting organizations including Korea Association of International Development and Cooperation (KAIDEC).
The Conference provided an excellent opportunity to network with professors and fellow students from other universities and to receive valuable comments from the session chair and commentators. The following are the presentations delivered by current students and alumni from Ogawa Seminar:
- Ashida, Akemi. Comparative Analysis of Individual Children’s Enrollment Patterns in Different Geographical Areas of Honduras. (Japanese)
- Kim, Najung. Analysis of Integration and Financing of Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) of the Republic of Korea. (English)
