Graduate School of International Cooperation Studies (GSICS), Kobe University
On August 26, 2022, Himeji Shikisai High School students visited the Graduate School of International Cooperation Studies (GSICS) at Kobe University as part of their English practice class. The group was composed of thirty-three students and five teachers. From GSICS, ten students joined the event. Three moments were scheduled: a lecture by Ogawa sensei, group discussions, and a Campus tour.
In the group discussion, high schoolers and Zemi students discussed internationalization and globalization, as well as their advantages and disadvantages. In addition, the conversations moved on to draw the best profile for individuals to be prepared to live in a global world. It was an excellent opportunity to exchange opinions through an interactive discussion.
The Campus tour followed, and smaller groups were composed to discuss multiple topics, such as work and field experiences in developed and developing countries, by some of the zemi students. In the afternoon, one zemi student, an intern at UNESCO Bangkok, presented an overview of UNESCO and the Sustainable Development Goals from Bangkok. After that, Professor Ogawa gave a comprehensive lecture on international cooperation and development, development assistance, and the required skills to compete under globalization both as an individual and a country. The participants listened intently to the lecture and asked some questions. The interactive nature of the event was valuable and meaningful for both high schoolers and GISCS students.
