The 7th International Conference and PhD Colloquium for Economics and Business was held on October 4th and 5th, 2023, hosted by the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga, in Surabaya, Indonesia. The conference featured approximately 60 sessions of general oral presentations and 12 seminars under the theme “Sustainability and Digital Transformation”.  The conference aims to discuss the latest knowledge and solutions to recent problems in the field of economics and to establish a network among academic institutions and researchers. Over 200 PhD students, researchers, and practitioners specializing in economics from all over the world attended this 7th edition of the conference.

The conference began with opening remarks by Dr. Mohammad Nasih of Airlangga University, chair of the conference’s organizing committee. During the plenary sessions, there was a lively discussion on how technology can gear toward a better life for people, as the importance of sustainability is emphasized by many societal factors. The individual research presentations gave us the opportunity to receive questions and comments from commentators and participants specializing in fields other than education, such as labor and environmental economics. Besides, during the reception on the first and second days of the conference, we had a valuable chance to interact with researchers and practitioners specializing in economics from about 30 countries, including Japan.

During the event, two doctoral students and three master’s students delivered oral presentations and received valuable comments and advice that helped them elaborate their research.
