From 14th to 28th February 2024, I participated in the ‘2024 Winter Short Programme’ at Korea University’s Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS), alongside 11 other students from Fudan University, Kobe University, and the National University of Laos.
Students can select between two programmes: the ‘Language and Culture Fellowship Programme’ and the ‘Research Fellowship Programme.’ I chose the ‘Language and Culture Fellowship Programme’ so that I could gain experience learning the Korean language. The Korean language course was quite beneficial, and I gained a wealth of knowledge from each session. Before enrolling in the class, I had no knowledge of the Korean language. But in only two weeks, I had made enough progress to be able to read and write simple sentences.
In addition, the program provided special lectures on risk management, from which I gained valuable insights from various perspectives and expanded my networking connections with professors. Moreover, there was a field trip visit in the language fellowship programme, during which I had the opportunity to visit Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) and Gyeongbok Palace. The Gyeongbok Palace visit offered a unique opportunity to immerse myself in Korean culture by dressing in traditional attire and exploring the ancient palace. The palace’s grandeur and distinctive architecture beautifully showcase Korean culture, creating wonderful memories from this cultural exchange.
Participating in this program was a wonderful experience for me, as it allowed me to delve into Korean culture and history. I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Korea University for providing me with this invaluable opportunity to be an exchange student for two weeks. Additionally, I extend my gratitude to Professor Ogawa Keiichi Ph.D. for recommending me to participate in the program and for his unwavering support throughout the fellowship programme.
