From December 2024 to February 2025, I traveled to Angola, a country located in the southern part of Africa to collect primary data for my dissertation. The research study titled “Formative Program Evaluation in CPD for Primary School Teachers in Angola.” For the success of this trip, the overseas field plan included two stages, namely, (i) Visiting the National Institute for Training Teachers, in Luanda, and (ii) Trip to Huila province for data collection. In the first stage, related to the National Institute for Training Teachers, I met coworkers and friends, and I collected feedback on the survey tool. This activity allowed me to test the survey`s readability to ensure that local education professionals understand the questions, as well as identify areas for improvement. In the second stage, I traveled to Huila province for data collection. In the province, I met with the Provincial Directorate of Education staff, namely, Mr. Beneficio Puna, Chief of the Department of Sciences, Technology and Innovation (second picture), who assisted me during this trip. In this stage, I also met with NGOs. For example, one organization focusing on rural development helped me to identify educational local projects in vulnerable communities. This overseas field trip provided me with an in-depth understanding of the relevance of government and stakeholders partnerships in improving in-service teachers` training. I am grateful to Professor Keiichi Ogawa for the guidance, to Kobe University for financial support, and to all organizations in Angola for receiving me and sharing valuable information.
