Dr. Hatakeyama teaches and researches international education and development at Tsuru University as an Associate Professor. He started his career at the World Bank HQ in 2008. Then, he moved to UNICEF in 2012. He worked at the Zimbabwe office, NY HQ, and Malawi office and engaged with capacity building of education ministries and statistical agencies. He also strived to realize gender mainstreaming in the education sector until 2017. He also serves in the cabinet office of the government of Japan as an international peace cooperation program adviser after his Ph.D. Besides his career in the public sector, he has managed an education NGO in Nepal with his old friends since 2012. He received his Ph.D. in Education Policy from Michigan State University in 2022. He holds an MA in Economics from GSICS and a BA in Education from the University of Tokyo.
