Message to Potential Candidates to Ogawa Seminar:

Hello, my name is Liang Xiya, and I would like to share some of my personal learning experiences and thoughts that may be helpful for those who wish to join the Ogawa Seminar in the future.

I chose to focus on the Economics of Education because I have come to deeply realize that the uneven distribution of educational resources is closely tied to regional economic development. Coming from a small city in China, I have personally witnessed how unequal access to education can shape people’s life opportunities. During my own school years, I noticed that students from less developed regions often faced barriers to quality learning resources and career guidance. This awareness grew stronger as I followed social issues related to educational inequality and regional disparities. These experiences motivated me to pursue studies in education and development, hoping to gain the analytical tools and policy knowledge necessary to promote fairer access to education.

Professor Ogawa gave me the opportunity to join the GSICS program at Kobe University and become a member of his seminar, which has been one of the most rewarding experiences in my academic journey. The program offers a rich interdisciplinary environment that connects education, economics, and development studies. It provides not only strong academic training but also an international community that encourages open discussion and diverse perspectives. Professor Ogawa’s deep expertise in education economics, along with his guidance on research design and data analysis, has greatly helped me refine my academic thinking. Moreover, the seminar’s collaborative and supportive atmosphere allows students to grow together through research presentations, joint projects, and policy-oriented discussions.

For those who are considering joining GSICS and the Ogawa Seminar, I sincerely believe that this is an excellent place to cultivate both intellectual depth and practical insight. It offers a truly inspiring academic environment where you can challenge yourself, exchange ideas with peers from around the world, and contribute to solving real-world issues in education and development.
