The 22nd International Education Development Forum (IEDF) was held at Tohoku University from October 17 (Fri.) to 19 (Sun.), 2025. The forum is an academic conference that brings together professors and graduate students from 12 universities in Japan and abroad. This year, approximately 150 participants, including advisors, presenters, and attendees, joined the event.
The theme of this year’s forum was “International Educational Development Towards and Beyond 2030: Whose Agendas, and What Goals and Approaches?” The opening session began with welcoming remarks by Associate Professor Jing Liu from Tohoku University, followed by an international symposium on “International Educational Development Beyond 2030.” The symposium featured keynote speeches by Professor Mark Bray from the University of Hong Kong and Professor Iveta Silova from Arizona State University, both of whom provided valuable insights into future directions of education policy and research in the post-2030 agenda. In the subsequent panel discussion, Professor Yuto Kitamura from the University of Tokyo, Professor Sung Sang Yoo from Seoul National University, Professor Mikiko Nishimura from International Christian University, and Professor Will Brehm from the University of Canberra engaged in an active and thought-provoking dialogue on the future prospects of international educational development.
On the second and third days of the forum, student research presentations were held in parallel sessions covering a wide range of topics, including education policy, gender, basic education, teacher education, and sustainable development. After the sessions on the second day, a networking reception was organized, providing participants with a valuable opportunity to interact with researchers from other universities. The forum concluded with closing remarks delivered by Associate Professor Jing Liu, Tohoku University and Professor Keiichi Ogawa, Kobe University.
