Student Kexin Wang defends her doctoral dissertation

On January 12th, 2022, Ms. Kexin Wang defended her doctoral dissertation titled “Home Learning Environment for Early Childhood Development Outcomes in Bangladesh” under the supervision of Professor Keiichi Ogawa. The committee was composed of professors Kenshi Yamanouchi and Minato Nakazawa, in addition to professor Ogawa. Ms. Wang obtained her Master’s degree from Kobe University in March 2019 and completed her doctoral program in 3 years, which is a significant achievement.

Her research applied national-sampled cross-sectional dataset and sample-based longitudinal dataset from Bangladesh that contains specific home environment information influencing preschoolers’ cognitive and non-cognitive outcomes. She provided new interesting insights about how caregivers involved in a home learning environment influence children’s early developmental ability. For instance, specific interactions or changes in the pattern of interactions between children and caregivers throughout the preschool period of a child’s life influence children’s literacy-numeracy and social-emotional development outcomes in varied ways.

Ms. Wang will obtain her Ph. D. degree in the commencement ceremony of Kobe University in March 2022. Currently she is working as a consultant for the World Bank, specifically in digitalized service delivery for human capital development assessment in Europe and Central Asia. She will publish her paper, entitled “Household Financing on Secondary Education in Cambodia: An Analysis of Household Over-indebtedness on Public Schooling and Supplementary Tutoring” in Journal of Economics & Business Administration with Professor Ogawa.
